Great Keto Snacks And Meals You Should Try This SummerAugust 12, 2019 by Springboard Brands
For the past 18 months, I’ve followed a mostly keto diet. It’s not for everyone, and you’ll have to make your own decisions about what’s best for your health, but I can say that my digestion has never felt better, my energy is incredible, my blood sugar is finally stable and I’ve lost more than 50lbs. While I give myself allowances on vacation or for special occasions, it always feels good to come back to this way of eating.
In those early days, it was a lot harder to find snacks and/or ready-made meals, but things have changed so much in a short amount of time. While I still love all of the things I’ve mentioned in my past articles about keto-friendly chocolate and subscription boxes, the offerings and options have grown so much since then. Here are some low carb products to put on your radar!
One of the most common things you’ll notice among low carb eaters is that, from time to time, they will miss the feeling of eating bread. There are many recipes to be found, but finding the right one can be time-consuming and expensive.
Base Culture has created a great keto sandwich bread that skips the grains, preservatives and artificial ingredients while delivering a low carb, high fat product made from arrowroot flour, flaxseed meal and almond butter. It’s certified grain-free, non-GMO, gluten-free, paleo and kosher and is available online at baseculture.com. Not only is this perfect for toast or sandwiches, but you could even use it as a hot dog or hamburger bun at your summer cookouts!
Sometimes, you just want something crunchy and snackable, and while many keto followers turn to pork rinds, that can get bland and boring after a while. Biena Snacks Chickpea Puffs are a great alternative for those moments when you just need a poppable snack while you’re watching a movie.
Biena’s Chickpea Puffs come in three craveable flavors – Aged White Cheddar, Vegan Ranch and Blazin’ Hot – and will only set you back 6 grams of net carbs. We recently spotted them at Hudson News while we were traveling, so keep your eyes open for this great keto option at the airport!
Keto-forward company, FBomb has a great line of products to keep your macros in check and your belly full including their new meaty pork sticks(which come in Smokehouse, Salt & Pepper and Jalapeno flavors) and their oven-baked Keto Krunch snacks. Choose from Cheddar, Chilli Lime and Buffalo for a crunchy low-carb delight. You can eat them straight out of the resealable bag or sprinkle on top of soup or salad.
The company also offers their phenomenal FBOMB Nut Butters which are made using a proprietary cool-grind process. The result is an incredibly creamy — yet textured! — spread that can be enjoyed right from the packet or slathered on some veggies or keto-friendly bread. Just be sure to fully knead the pouch before opening to avoid a delicious mess!
Summertime is great for keto followers because it’s easier than ever to throw some meat on the grill and whip up a low carb salad on the side. The problem is that many barbecue sauces and salad dressings are filled with sugar, which is something we need to avoid.
Kumana Foods has come up with a perfect solution — their sauces are made using ripe avocados, onions and green bell peppers to give low carb eaters the flavor and fat they deserve without added sweeteners. With three flavors — Be Hot, Be Original and Be Mango — grilling season just got kicked up a notch!
There was a time when I can say that bone broth changed our lives and it had nothing to do with keto. When our twins were babies, they struggled to make the transition to solid food. We read that some infants have digestive issues and that drinking bone broth helped, so we gave our boys bone broth at eight months old, and it was the first food they were able to tolerate. In fact, they begged for it twice a day, every day for four months!
By the time I started following a keto diet, I was well aware of the benefits of bone broth and was excited to see it listed among the recommended foods. It’s important to note, however, that not all bone broths are created equal. While a lower quality brand is probably better than none at all, this is one of those foods where spending a little more is worth it.
Fond creates flavorful, handcrafted bone broth that is perfect for sipping like tea or adding to your favorite stew recipe. Naturally gluten, dairy and sugar-free, it’s the first thing I turn to if I’m feeling a little extra hungry or sluggish. Bone broth is also great during those early days of keto when your body is making the transition to a low carb diet.
Sweetened with the natural plant monk fruit, ChocZero allows you to indulge your sweet tooth without the sugar crash or extra carbs. This is a great option for anyone following the keto diet or trying to cut back on their sugar consumption.
ChocZero’s line of products includes milk and dark chocolate squares, a wide variety of chocolate barks (almond, hazelnut, coconut, and peppermint!) and absolutely delicious syrups including maple, caramel and even banana! Unlike many of the other syrups on the market, these are thick and rich and actually stick to your food so that every bite is infused with flavor.
One of the things I missed most when I gave up wheat was pancakes. For years, I’d spent many a Sunday morning making a big breakfast for my family, but I couldn’t come up with a keto-friendly recipe that was worth the effort. Every time I tried, I’d just end up with was a messy kitchen and an empty belly!
The Happy Day Keto Pancake & Waffle Mix makes it easy to create a low carb, grain-free and dairy free meal that my entire family can enjoy. All you have to do is add water and enjoy! Each serving contains just three grams of net carbs, zero grams of sugar and is packed with four grams of fiber! Best of all, each purchase helps provide meals through local food banks as well as educational and employment opportunities to those in need.
As someone whose large intestine was removed more than 20 years ago, gut health is important to me. The Gutsii brand is a good option for those who are looking for a sweet treat that is packed with prebiotics and fiber, while being made from natural, vegan and gluten-free ingredients.
With fun flavors named after famous musicians such as Pinksalt Floyd Rocks and Mint Puffdaddii, you’ll enjoy these low or no sugar, keto-friendly chocolate bars that happen to be quite tasty! Additionally, each order helps contribute to a global initiative aimed at connecting businesses with worthy causes.
There’s one keto-friendly product that is in my fridge all day, every day — Wholly Guacamole. Yes, you can make your own and yes there are other brands on the market, but this is my favorite. The products are high quality and consistent, and you can’t beat the convenience of those peel-and-serve trays.
Wholly Guacamole comes in varieties such as Classic, Organic, Spicy and Chunky, and all of them are fantastic. We put guacamole on our taco bowls, enchiladas, eggs, salads and so much more. It’s a great way to add healthy fat to your diet, and the Minis are a 100-calorie portion that you can enjoy on the go!
There are few things more refreshing than the flavor of lemon, especially during the warmer months. This summer, skip the salad dressings that contain high fructose corn syrup and unnecessary sweeteners and try Lemonette Salad Dressing. It’s great for those following a keto diet, but also anyone trying to eat a little cleaner.
The products are NonGMO Project Verified, and free from gluten, canola, sugar, dairy, soy, vinegar and artificial preservatives. The blend of flavors are strong, but not overpowering, and include Italian Herb, Lemon Garlic, Mediterranean Herb and Zesty Cumin.
Looking for a keto-friendly energy bar? ViBE Infusion has come up with a line that is plant-based, all-natural and free of gluten, dairy and soy. The bars also include both caffeine and protein to provide a boost without sacrificing taste.
Their newest product, the ViBE Calm bar, aims to help fight feelings of anxiety and stress by incorporating GABA, glycine, L-theanine and lavender oil into the recipe. Of course, every person’s needs are different, but at just four grams of net carbs, it’s worth trying. Plus, they taste pretty good!
While peanut and almond butter are common staples in a keto diet, you might start to get tired of them after a while. Fat Fit Go has come up with two new, delicious products by adding new flavor profiles to their nut butter.
Why not shake things up a bit with a Strawberry Lime Nut Butter, for example? The high fat formula includes MCTs, making it easy to keep your body fueled and burning fat for longer. Fit Fat Go carries several other keto-friendly products such as snacks, condiments and even chocolate chips for baking!
I’ll go ahead and admit this — before going keto, I’d never tried cauliflower. It wasn’t long, though, before I discovered that many people turn to the vegetable after adopting a low carb lifestyle. Now, it’s become incredibly popular as it’s used in everything from pizza crusts to fried “rice” substitutes.
Hippie Snacks has jumped on board by releasing Cauliflower Crisps as well as Avocado Crisps. The treats are have five grams of protein per serving and are plant-based, non-GMO and gluten free!
Free from added sugars, KiiTO is an organic, plant-based protein drink that tastes great and supports a keto lifestyle. The beverage comes in several varieties including a quick meal replacement, pre/post workout, snack or even dessert.
With 20g of plant protein (pea protein), coconut milk and seven grams of MCTs, KiiTO is free from gluten, dairy, soy and GMOs. It comes in three flavors — Vanilla Ashwagandha, Chocolate Maca, and Matcha Moringa — and can be added to smoothies, coffee or enjoyed straight from the carton!
I’m a huge cereal fan, so when I went low carb, I really missed pouring myself a bowl after a long work day or as a midnight snack. If you share my sadness, you’ll be happy to hear that The Cereal School has recreated some of our favorite childhood cereals without all the junk!
That’s right — you can enjoy a bowl of cinnamon bun or fruity puffs without artificial sweeteners, colors or GMOs. It also comes in 100 calorie bags to help you keep your portions in check!
While there are low carb wraps on the market, most of them contain wheat. Wrawp has come up with an option that is made with young coconut meat and psyllium husk, giving keto followers a way to enjoy a wrapped meal or snack without the grain!
Wrawps come in several varieties, including coconut and veggie wraps, and are USDA Organic, low carb and free from gluten, dairy, wheat and preservatives. Want something to go with your wrap on the side? Try the company’s Coconut Jerky or Kelp Seaweed Chips!
Before adopting a keto lifestyle, I’d indulge in candy, especially when watching a movie. I searched for comparable products to replace my favorites, but could never find anything similar enough to satisfy my craving. Then, Lily’s Sweets came out with a new line of products that changed my life!
Adding to their already existing chocolate bars and baking chips, Lily’s introduced peanut butter cups, chocolate-covered almonds and chocolate-covered peanuts. Choose from dark or milk chocolate style for the ultimate keto-friendly sweet treat. We need to get these into movie theaters so that the low carb audience has something to enjoy, too!
If you’ve read my food-related stories over the past year, you’ll know that I’ve talked about Fresh N’ Lean before. While I was happy with the Paleo meals (although, I’d have to skip some of the ingredients), I’m thrilled to see that they now offer a true Keto plan!
Low carb dieters can choose from items such as Beef and Spaghetti Squash, Almond Crusted Cod, BBQ Chicken Wings with Cauliflower Rice and Faijta Bowl with Grass-Fed Steak. The meals are prepared by a chef using fresh, organic ingredients before being delivered right to your door. There’s no easier way to stay on track this summer!
If you’ve read any of my past keto stories, you’ll know that I really love Catalina Crunch! First, I fell in love with the Decadent Dark Chocolate flavor, but then the Cinnamon Toast stole my heart! Now, they’ve introduced Maple Waffle and it’s a great addition to the lineup.
Some days, I just need to have some cereal, and this zero sugar, low carb option is vegan-friendly and delicious. It’s the perfect way to start a summer day!
While it’s entirely possible for vegans and vegetarians to follow a keto lifestyle, the diet is largely associated with eating meat. This summer, treat yourself to some high-quality, flavorful options from the KC Cattle Company. Choose from a wide selection of Wagyu meats including ribeye steaks, roasts and even soup bones!
The company relies on products that are raised or locally grown by veterans, meaning you’ll be elevating your meal while also supporting those who have served — and that’s a win-win situation!
Following a keto diet can be an adjustment, and it might not be for everyone. For those who are happy and thriving on a low carb eating plan, though, the options continue to grow. Summer is a great time to experiment with new foods and get more active. Just make sure you’ve got enough to share — your friends will want to try everything!
